Fresh Creative have completed several projects on Newton Road, adding a vibrant touch to the streets of Swansea with our murals and bespoke business signage. Over the years, we’ve transformed various local businesses, helping to create a more lively and engaging streetscape. One of our most recent projects was for Russell, the owner of Mumbles Shoe Repair. Russell approached Fresh Creative with a special request. He was looking for something more than just a typical business sign—he wanted a mural that would make his shop truly memorable and stand out among the others.
Optical Illusion
Phil, one of the artists at Fresh Creative, got to work using elements of optical illusions as inspiration. He came up with a brilliant concept that would blend the shop’s identity with a captivating mural. Phil devised an imaginative design that cleverly fused the three main icons of Mumbles Shoe Repair into a dynamic mural that invites people to explore its details. This artwork features a striking gateway that leads to an imaginative beach scene and reflects Mumbles’ coastal charm.
Cohesive Branding
To ensure the design felt cohesive with the business’s existing branding, Phil and Mark meticulously worked within the shop’s established colour palette. With their combined expertise, they set to work on bringing the idea to life. The result was a breathtaking night-time beach scene that beautifully integrates natural elements like sand dunes and tall reeds, framing the gateway in a way that feels both organic and artistic. The mural is not only functional in guiding customers to the shop. It also elevates the overall aesthetic of the area, making it a standout feature on Newton Road.
Depth and Detail
A key factor in achieving the mural’s visual depth and vibrant tones was the use of Molotow spray paint. Known for its high pigmentation and durability, Molotow allowed Mark and Phil to create the rich, immersive scene. The spray paint’s dynamic range of colours provided the perfect medium to capture the subtleties of the night sky, the textures of the dunes, and the flowing movement of the reeds, all while staying true to the vision of creating a mural that was both artistic and brand-appropriate.
