Lenny’s Hydroponics

Posted: 11th August 2019

Fresh Creative Co. recently painted an interior mural for Lenny at Lennys’ hydroponics they are a Hydroponics equipment supplier in Gorseinon, Wales

After doing research into suitable images for a design on the interior wall, in consultation with Lenny we decided upon Bob Marley and Howard marks.

Dennis Howard Marks (13 August 1945 – 10 April 2016) was a Welsh drug smuggler and author who achieved notoriety as an international cannabis smuggler through high-profile court cases. At his peak he claimed to have been smuggling consignments of the drug as large as 30 tons, and was connected with groups as diverse as the CIA, the IRA, MI6, and the Mafia. He was eventually convicted by the American Drug Enforcement Administration and handed a 25-year sentence to be served at Terre Haute; he was released in April 1995 after serving seven years. Though he had up to 43 aliases, he became known as “Mr. Nice” after he bought a passport from convicted murderer Donald Nice. After his release from prison, he published a best-selling autobiography, Mr. Nice, and campaigned publicly for changes in drugs legislation.

Robert Nesta Marley, OM (6 February 1945 – 11 May 1981) was a Jamaican singer and songwriter. Considered one of the pioneers of reggae, his musical career was marked by blending elements of reggae, ska, and rocksteady, as well as forging a smooth and distinctive vocal and songwriting style. Marley’s contributions to music increased the visibility of Jamaican music worldwide, and made him a global figure in popular culture for over a decade. Over the course of his career Marley became known as a Rastafari icon, and the singer sought to infuse his music with a sense of spirituality.

We painted two portraits of the infamous Howard marks and musician Bob Marley inside the industrial unit.

We really enjoyed painting these portraits as painting portraits can often be quite challenging.

PROCESS

We designed this mural taking references from photos we found on the internet of Bob Marley and Howard Marks.

Once on site we laid down dust sheets to protect the floor and seating area and used masking tape to mask off the adjoining walls from any overspray.

The team there were really helpful and accommodating and kept us going with lots of cups of tea.

We marked up our rough sketch lines from which the rest of the artwork would be completed.

We painted this mural using a small scaffold tower as the artwork was  quite high up on the wall and then we went right to the top of the rafters in the industrial unit.

Once we had our outline in place on the wall, we set about filling in the main block colours on the portraits using a mixture of spray paint, emulsion and brush work.

We then started to add some of the details that bring the portraits to life.

FINISHED PIECES

It was quite tricky to get finished photos but while carefully balancing on bags of dog food we snapped a few finishing photos.
